Ladina is a new selection from the Agroscope breeding program in Switzerland. It is a truly delicious apple with a light, crispy texture. It is a nearly fully colored pink to red apple with cream-colored flesh. Along with its scab resistance, it also has tolerance to fire blight and low susceptibility to mildew. It will keep through February in CA storage. At ACN, we have seen some issues with superficial scald in long-term regular cold storage.

An exciting new release from the apple breeding program at Rutgers University, this selection combines disease tolerance with a great eating experience. RubyRush exhibits scab resistance along with tolerance to fire blight and cedar apple rust. Fruit will maintain flavor and firmness for 7 months in regular cold storage. The tree is vigorous and should be thinned to avoid biennial bearing.

Scarlet Haze™

An exciting new release from the apple breeding program at Rutgers University, this unique selection provides a great eating experience. Fruit develops a red blush on the sun exposed size over a creamy ground color. While fruit can seem deceivingly mature in early October, it is best to wait on flavor. In Aspers, Pennsylvania, Scarlet Haze™ (NJ151 Cltv.) develops the best flavor in mid-October or later. Fruit size and shape can be variable, and while fruit will maintain flavor and firmness in regular cold storage, soft scald can become an issue after a few months in storage.  

Kudos ™ (MN33 Cltv.)

A new release from the University of Minnesota, Kudos™ (MN33 Cltv.) is an attractive Honeycrisp x Zestar!® cross that produces well-colored fruit with an excellent crisp, juicy texture. The sweet flavor is well-balanced with occasional tropical overtones.  The fruit has a firm texture and stores up to 5 months in regular cold storage.  Please note that this variety can be susceptible to bitter pit.

Lucy™ Glo

Lucy™ Glo finishes with a yellow to orange color and a light to vibrant pink flesh. They have an outstanding, sweet-tart flavor with berry undertones. While eating quality is excellent, fruit does not keep in long-term storage and should be used within a few months of harvest. Fruit is prone to drop and should also be thinned to avoid biennial bearing.

Lucy™ apples are available to Farmer’s Markets or “Farmgate” operations. You must sign a Farmgate grower agreement, which requires annual fees.

Mosaic™ is a new scab-resistant selection out of the CIV breeding program in Italy. It can be picked green like Granny Smith, or if you let it hang, it will turn solid yellow and will hang very late into the season while still maintaining its firmness. It consistently produces high yields, and it stores well, even in regular cold storage. Late-season harvested Mosaic™  have maintained their firmness through March in regular cold storage.

Important note: Mosaic™ fruit can develop a strong blush on the sun-exposed side, especially in years with cooler temperatures.

Majesty is a variety out of the CIV breeding program in Italy. It is a very attractive apple with 80% red color and an elongated shape. It is productive and has provided excellent pack out as well as long storability in trials in Italy. We have seen these promising qualities on display in our test block in Pennsylvania, and we are excited to offer this new variety.

Discovered by John H. Baugher, Sr. in a production block of Jonagold DeCoster at Adams County Nursery, Legacy™ Jonagold is an improved strain of Jonagold. The fruit develops a much-improved red color with traditional Jonagold flavor and has impressed us for many years. 

DAS 7 Cltv.

DAS 7 Cltv. is a full-tree mutation of Premier Honeycrisp® (DAS-10 cltv.). It boasts an improvement in red color, developing a blush pattern versus the Premier’s stripe. DAS 7 Cltv. has shown improved extra-fancy grade outs versus its parent. We have been evaluating it for several years, and we are excited about the cherry red color development that we have seen each year. DAS 7 Cltv. ripens three weeks before regular season Honeycrisp, at the same time as Premier. 

Ronnie Red™ Gala

Ronnie Red™ is an outstanding, solid red gala that has impressed us for several years. It is a full-tree mutation of its predecessor, Baigent, and it was found in a commercial orchard in Sparta, Michigan. We are very excited to add this strain to our Gala lineup. 

RedRidge™ Gala

Details

RedRidge™ is a highly colored, early strain of Gala. It matures 4 to 5 days ahead of its parent, Brookfield Gala, and it is reported to have a nearly 100% red blush.

MAIA-Mitchell

Details

MAIA-Mitchell is a limb mutation of its predecessor, MAIA-1, and it boasts improvement in red color. Its color begins developing 8 weeks earlier than MAIA-1, and it is reported to develop up to 88% red color on the fruit. Fruit of MAIA-Mitchell will be marketed as EverCrisp®.

Anna Rose™ is a new release from Rutgers Breeding Program/ New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES). Anna Rose™ is a deliciously sweet peach that ripens shortly after Redhaven. The fruit is medium in size with beautiful color. The tree crops heavily and ripens evenly with low susceptibility to bacterial spot.

September Rose™

Released from the USDA-ARS Appalachian Fruit Research Station in Kearneysville, WV, Bell is named after long-time pear breeder, Richard Bell. The fruit has ranked the highest in flavor intensity, flavor balance, and juiciness among other pears in its season during years of extensive evaluation. The tree is vigorous and exhibits excellent resistance to fire blight.

Juicy Jewel™

A new release from the University of Minnesota, Juicy Jewel is an attractive Asian pear that ripens early in the season. The sweet fruit has a mild tropical flavor and produces an orange-pink blush when ripe. Juicy Jewel has been observed to have high tolerance to fire blight, and it can store up to three months in cold storage.
